Is there any need for doing computer engg. for hardcore animation?
I'm confused what to do?. i'm mad about Animation and Gaming and i want know that Is there any need for doing computer engg. for hardcore animation.
Animation is a craft and I for one am not going to suggest that anything short of the foundations of Fine Arts are going to help you. Why? Obviously there is a question of the drawing skills. You want to see that the marks that are filmed are the ones you want to be filmed. Beyond that, though, even in traditional art there are many many choices of media and you will find that you are TRAINED to make choices which, even in this environment where Computer Animation is the stuff it is easiest for people to get funding for, you WILL be confronted with and you will be better able to PLAN your animations.

People encourage computer engineering because they want to pay animators as little as possible and figure a computer tech will be less expensive than a real animator, but that doesn't mean they have the luxury of ignoring the real animators who are out there.

This is not a good economy to get into it, of course. There are a LOT of GREAT people out there looking for work. Worse, when I am answering a question from someone like this they usually do not understand I am EXACTLY talking about those "ditsy" classes where you may be required to animate sand or colored liquids. Useless as these may seem, they do teach you about WHAT ANIMATION IS. But the first computer animated films were put together in exactly this way, and in fact yes, there are still people around doing even stop-motion -- like Coraline. There was a promo asked about in Software last year for the British Soap Opera Coronation Street. They asked what program was used to make it. After looking at it I realized they had gone to a toy store, bought what they liked and animated them. Some small agencies in the US DO do stop motion on the cheap -- or order it. For hard core animation you need to be able to decide what is the most appropriate way to animate something (Believe me, that WAS the most appropriate for Coronation street). You can actually pick up Computer Engineering later if that's what you want -- though it does provide a good way to eat while you get cred.

I used to see a video that was stop motion animation on mtv when i was a guy,?
i used to see a video that was stop motion animation on mtv when i was a guy, it was kinda hardcore, kinda grunge, but i cant remember what it was, i think there was a coffen and a grave yard scene near the end, any ideas what video, artist, or song it could be been bothering me for years, was in the mid 90's 94 to about 98, no later tho i think

if any one has any ideas please help
Try Pantera "Cemetery Gates" at the MTV site. It's full of cemetery stuff. It's not animated, but since it's been a long time and you were a guy, your memory might be faulty. Cannibal Corpse did stuff like that, too, as did Garbage, Nirvana, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails and Tool. Not sure about Motorhead, they might have made a video like that. These are all bands from that era. They the have videos they showed for all of the bands on the MTV site. Try looking up some Goth videos online, too. Good luck!
What is this artist/song It's background music is similar to "Weezer"?
A lot of there songs deal with drugs and I think it's categorized as emo, alternative rock, or hardcore but all there cds have a graphic animation 3D picture on them and it's also in the music videos. It is not gorilaz I've already checked.
hmmm... try muse or blur.

EXTREME weezer fan right here.

(if any1 duz =D)
Pirate torrent and try downloading Sony Vegas Pro 9, Or go to download.com and try and searching a free video editing program. That all i can do for u.
Animation Degree, What School To Pick? Gnomon, VFS, Ringling?
Hey, I'm looking to get a degree in animation and I can't make up my mind on a school. I strongly believe money is the last thing to look at when picking an education and it won't be a problem anyways. For the moment my main choices are Vancouver Film School, Ringling, and Gnomon, all of which I know are amazing schools. But I need a place where I can really get the most for my dedication, I want to work for Lucas Arts and I know that is a 1/1,000,000 shot. As far as my skills go for the moment, I don't have training in Maya or Lightwave or Flash or any thing, I can take pictures and do basically what ever I want with Photoshop, and I can draw rather well and I know I have more skills in art than what I demonstrate now. I have made a small 10 second animation of a basic ball bouncing in Maya but that’s about all I tried so far. I do plan on taking a few classes on Maya or Lightwave before going off but nothing to hardcore, just basic overview. And I am willing to work my *** off to get my dream job. As far as locations go I live in Florida now but I can't stand it here, I was born and raised in snow and -20* weather not the heat and sun. So of course as far as environment goes Vancouver sounds like a better choice. But also Lucas Arts is located in California as is Gnomon, the heat there would be a bit better than Florida but still isn't ideal but it's livable. But I know Ringling is world known for having outstanding art degrees. So you see my problem kind of? I had also thought lets really pile on the debt and do Vancouver/Ringling, move to Hollywood and do Gnomon as well if I can’t get a job right off. I know this is what I want though, I love making realistic new worlds and characters. The only thing I can really see my self doing is some thing like this so I have to make it happen.
Sounds like something similar to what I am going through. I hate florida weather and I grew up with snow. I think the best thing is to visit the colleges if you can. It really is the best way to get a feel of what the college is like. I went looking at ringling with the mindset that I wanted to do animation but when I went I realized it really wasn't for me, I love stories and bringing places and people to life but I don't want to sit in front of a computer and I'm not the best at drawing. When you pick a college they will help you make sure you are in the major that you really want to be in.
If it is really what you truly want I say go for it because you could be that one person that gets the job.
Also something to think about is that you might go in as an animator and switch out but if you are thinking of ringling (don't know about other colleges) you have to start as an animator you can't switch into animation because that is what the school is known for.
Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for!

Is macbook pro good for 3D animation ?
Soon i will buy macbook pro 15,4". I have been thinking of it for some time now, i need it for some stuff and school ;) now im doing these animation's in Autodesk Maya on iMac 27 ( which isn't mine, i have this friends in one studio...). It would be good if i could sit at home and relax while doing this... I want to know how fast can macbook 15,4" (intel i5) handle this "hardcore" video editing software's. Anyone have any experience ?
The iMac's and Macbooks generally share the same guts. The monitor is generally the only difference. Rumor has it that new Mac's are coming out on Tuesday so I'd hold off on purchasing anything for a few days.

That being said... I have a 15.4" MBP with the core i7 processor and it runs like a dream. I've only used Kinemac for 3d modeling but everything runs very nicely.
